B1 Prepare a Meal

B1.  (All levels) Prepare a Spanish, Mexican, or Hispanic meal (We define authentic as food that would be typical for a given Spanish speaking region.  Before you begin cooking, discuss the time/cost necessary to make the meal with a parent, then complete the proposal (Top part of form B1) and bring in your recipes for pre-approval by your Spanish teacher. 

  • You must make 2 dishes. (2 main dishes or 1 main dish and 1 side or 1 dessert.) using an authentic recipe.
  • You may not make any salsas or guacamole as a main dish nor a side.  A homemade salsa may be poured over a main dish, but does not count as a dish or side by itself.
  • Stay away from any recipes that have you using canned ingredients or salsas.
  • Try something new that your family has never made before.
  • Be sure to do some research about your dish.  Where is it eaten?  When is it eaten?  What makes it a traditional Mexican, Spanish, Puerto Rican or Cuban dish?
