Schedule Changes

STUDENTS CAN NOT ADD ELECTIVE CLASSES TO THEIR SCHEDULES.

STUDENTS CAN NOT REARRANGE CLASSES WITHIN THEIR SCHEDULES.

This policy is in place because teaching positions are based on registration. Once students register, course sections are cut and staffing positions are determined. If we allow students to change their minds about course selection not only does it undermine the integrity of the registration process, but more importantly, class sizes become very imbalanced.

Thank you for your support as we do our best to help students make the best decisions about course selection and to maintain balanced class sizes in all subject areas.

 

HASTINGS HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULE CHANGE POLICY:

OPTION A:  Student is dropping from a class into a study hall. This drop is occurring prior to the 6 week deadline set at the beginning of each semester. The student is dropping without penalty and the class will not appear on his/her transcript.

OPTION B:  Student is dropping from a class into a study hall. This drop is occurring after the 6 week deadline set at the beginning of each semester. The student is dropping with penalty. The class will appear on his/her transcript as a “W” and will have the same impact on GPA and class rank as an “F”.

OPTION C:  Student is dropping or advancing a level within a department (i.e. a student is moving from Honors Geometry to Geometry). With teacher approval, students may change a level within a department within the first 6 weeks of school or at the semester’s end.


HOW DO I REQUEST A SCHEDULE CHANGE?

If you need to drop a class into a study hall or you would like to move up or down a level in a core course, print out the class drop form (see below), get the necessary signatures, and bring the completed form into the counseling office.
