Students shall have an equal opportunity to receive quality instructional programs and services based on their individual needs.
Special Education Services are provided to students demonstrating significant educational needs. These needs are determined on the basis of individual assessment and Minnesota Department of Education criteria. Classroom teachers, principals, counselors or parents refer students to the Child Study/Review Team. Students may also initiate a self-referral by contacting their counselor. If the Child Study/Review Team recommends individual assessment, permission to assess must be obtained from a parent or guardian, if the student is under 18 years of age. If eligibility for special programming is determined, an Individual Educational Plan (IEP), outlining short and long term educational goals, must be developed before services begin.
