In January of 2013, we began a small pilot project allowing students to bring their own technology devices to school to use in classroom settings. These devices included laptops, tablets and e-readers, and smartphones. The only specific technology requirement was that the device be internet enabled. Students were allowed to use the devices under the discretion and supervision of classroom teachers.
We chose to name our wireless "bring your own" initiative BOLD, which stands for Bring Your Own Learning Device to place the emphasis on classroom instruction and learning. This pilot will further expand during the 2013-2014 school year as more teachers discover ways to leverage these technologies in the classroom. Our guideline and use agreement documents are linked at the bottom of this page.
Schools around the country have embarked on the Bring Your Own Device journey. See below for one school's story.
