The HHS band program provides students with an environment that enhances creativity, develops musical sensitivity, builds music performance skills andnurtures social development. The program challenges them to explore music of many styles, cultures and backgrounds; it encourages them to develop discerning musical tastes and a lifelong desire to appreciate quality music. Classes explore how sensitivity to self, others and the environment help define humanity. Students will develop a high level of musical performance aptitude and independent learning skills in an environment that supports personal and group pride, responsibility, self-worth, camaraderie, and community service.

All students participating in the HHS band program must take lessons and participate in concerts, sectionals and graduation band. During a typical school year, the Varsity Band, Concert Band and Wind Ensemble perform four evening concerts, and students in the programs attend at least one band festival or contest. During each school year and preceding summer, students in these programs will be eligible to participate in co-curricular band activities such as Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, MBDA Honor Band, and the MSHSL solo and ensemble contest.
