College Spanish

College Spanish Fourth Year I/II (0676/0677)

Credits: 2 Grades: 11, 12

Prerequisite: Spanish-Third Year I/II, Honors Spanish-Third Year I/II, or teacher recommendation. Students must maintain a C grade point average or higher to remain in the Honors Spanish Program.

Spanish Honors 4 has a concurrent enrollment option through Southwest Minnesota State University’s College Now program.

In this course students will continue to use and develop their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in Spanish in addition to deepening their cultural competency. This class focuses on real communication in meaningful contexts such as personal relationships, urban life, media influences, generations in movement, natural resources, ideas and their values, work perspectives, and science and technology. For this college Spanish class, we will be using the textbook Imagina (Vista Higher Learning) and its accompanying supersite, which are also used to teach intermediate Spanish classes at Southwest Minnesota State University.

Using individual, pair, and group work students will access authentic media to gain a comprehensive understanding of the themes explored. This course will help students use the Spanish language as a lifelong tool and/or to prepare them for a successful transition into a post-secondary program.

Student Eligibility:

A student who plans to enroll for courses in the Southwest Minnesota State University ~ College Now program must meet the following requirements:

  1. Must be at least 16 years of age.
  2. Must submit an e-application and be admitted to SMSU.
  3. Must be a junior or senior in high school
  4. Juniors must be in the top third of their class
  5. Seniors must be in the top half of their class AND…
  6. Juniors or Seniors must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0-point scale)
