PROCESS

There are four phases to registration: Prepare, Educate, Explore, and Register

  1. Preparation is on our end! Teachers evaluate curriculum, propose course changes, and modify sequences. Counselors update the course guide, prepare registration materials, and create a timeline for completion.

  2. The education phase encourages conversations between staff and families. The course guide goes live on the HHS website. Teachers (English, social studies, math, science, and global languages) do presentations in the classroom on the course sequences in their departments. Teachers also provide recommendations for next-level courses for each student.

  3. The exploration chapter is where the fun happens! There are a host of activities in the advisory period to introduce registration, highlight course options, reflect on post-secondary plans, and discuss graduation requirements.

  4. The final phase is registration. The first step is to pre-register online, allowing students and parents to work together to select classes. The second step is when counselors meet with each student to review the pre-registration and input final course selections into Infinite Campus.

TIMELINE

January 6-8: Carefully review the HHS Course Guide. Take note of graduation requirements, college admissions standards, enrichment opportunities, department offerings, course descriptions, and prerequisites.

January 9-10: Course Recommendation Days

Teachers will

  • go over the scope and sequence for their departments in their classes,

  • talk to each student individually about their recommendations for the next year, and

  • will input their recommendations in Infinite Campus.

These recommendations will then be emailed to students and parents/guardians. These are RECOMMENDATIONS, not actual registration. If students and/or parents/guardians have concerns or questions about the recommendations, they should contact the teacher directly. The purpose of recommendations is to prompt conversations between students, parents, and teachers about course selection. *The only courses that are inputting recommendations are 9th and 10th grade English, social studies, science, and all levels of math classes.
