Spanish Honor Society is a nationally recognized honor society to honor students who have shown excellence in the Spanish language. The Hastings High School branch of this organization is called Sociedad Quijote and has about 95 members year-to-year and is led by Spanish teachers , Blanca (Cindy Davis) and Daniela (Julia Massmann).

Sociedad Quijote is an organization which is actively involved in Hastings High School as well as with the local community. Spanish Honor Society conducts many projects to help with cultural and global education of children at the elementary and middle school levels.

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements to become a member:

  1. Be enrolled in a Spanish Class at Hastings High School

  2. Student must have maintained a B+ average in three semesters of high school Spanish

  3. Also, the student must be in their sophomore or junior year of high school

To maintain membership after induction:

  1. Each member must maintain a grade of at least 85 % in her/his current Spanish class.

  2. Each member must attend the three mandatory breakfast meetings during the school year (September, December and February).

  3. Each member must complete six service hours and upon completion of service hours, fill out the proper form and turn in for approval before the stated deadline.

Information for Seniors

Language Cords:

Senior Sociedad Quijote members can choose to purchase and wear a language cord (the cords cost about $8) for the graduation ceremonies if they:

  • are a student of Spanish 3, 3H, 4 or CU at the time of graduation

  • have met the academic requirements of Sociedad Quijote

  • have completed all service requirements for Sociedad Quijote

  • are at least a second year member of Sociedad Quijote

  • have done all of the above each year after induction
