HHS November Newletter

Oct Rotary

Lukas Foss was selected as our October Rotary Students of the Month for the 2024-25 school year. Our partnership with the Hastings Rotary Club has been a tremendous asset as we continue to recognize our outstanding students. Lukas exemplifies the club's motto of "Service Above Self". Our staff had this to say about Lukas:

Lukas is an amazing leader for Peer Helpers, student athlete and captain, stellar in academics, caring, empathetic, thoughtful, knows when to take things seriously and when to have a good time! Wonderful human! He is the epitome of well-rounded . He is intelligent academically and emotionally. He contributes a lot to the culture and positive atmosphere of Hastings High School. He's a good friend, a hard-worker, and is kind to others. He leads by example with his dedication and commitment to the things he is involved in, and his overall positive attitude!

Congratulations Lukas!

BB1BB2RAIDER BUDDIES Program

Raider Buddies is a program at HHS that fosters friendships between high schools with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. Currently, we have 47 students enrolled in the program which immediately places them in the top tier of club participation. They have held two large group meetings full of activity and relationship building. In addition, students are making plans to participate in community events like bowling and watching sporting events. This program is transforming HHS and we could not be more proud of our students and staff who are making inclusion a priority.

Pick Up/Drop Off Reminder

As we approach the winters season, it will become more important for us to exercise caution when navigating the high school parking lot. Here is a reminder of how you can help mitigate any issues and increase safety.

For those who pick up or drop off students near the lower student entrance, please make sure to park/wait in the designated areas. In the afternoons, we encourage people to keep the loop clear as we load and unload our special transportation in that area. To help balance wait times, please consider utilizing the upper/south entrance for pick up and/or drop off.

Thank you for helping us create a safe environment for all.

Test Drive

The Hastings High Music department was selected as the recipient of a very generous opportunity back in October. In conjunction with Hastings Automotive, Inc., community members were able to take a short test drive which generated some funding for that program. After calculating the number of test drives, the event generated $1,340 which will be utilized to purchase instruments for students. In addition to that amount, Hastings Automotive, Inc. has matched the funds to increase that total to $2,680. We cannot thank Dan Plank and his organization enough for this opportunity. We are truly grateful!
